Te noho hauora o te whānau Māori
Whānau Māori living healthy lives
Te Tauraki Limited (Te Tauraki) is a subsidiary of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (Te Rūnanga) and is the Iwi-mandated vehicle for advancing health and wellbeing aspirations for whānau Māori within the takiwā of Kāi Tahu.
As well as being the Kāi Tahu-owned health and wellbeing vehicle, Te Tauraki operates as an Iwi Māori Partnership Board (under the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022) and a commissioning agency.
Our vision is: whānau Māori living healthy lives.
Our strategy to achieve our vision is to embed data, insights, and evaluation at the heart of decision-making and system influence, ensuring our work is grounded in what works for whānau Māori.
By expanding commissioning opportunities, building strong strategic relationships, and upholding Kāi Tahu rakatirataka, Te Tauraki will secure sustainable investment, drive system and service redesign, and enable equitable, intergenerational outcomes for whānau Māori.
Our mandate is wide but targeted and our work is varied but focused. We amplify whānau Māori voice, monitor health system performance, influence government and commission services that advance hauora outcomes for whānau Māori and communities. We hold the system accountable for equitable outcomes while investing in solutions that strengthen whānau Māori wellbeing.
Looking for support?
If you live in Te Waipounamu (South Island) or Wharekauri/Rēkohu (Chatham Islands) and would like support from a Whānau Ora kaitūwhana, use our interactive map to find a service provider near you – click here or on the image of the map.
Whānau Ora kaitūwhana support whānau to identify and work toward their goals, whether it relates to wellbeing, health, education, finances, or a combination thereof.
The term kaitūwhana reflects the approach of Te Tauraki, which connects us to the wisdom of our Kāi Tahu tīpuna. When we faced rivers in flood, we created tūwhana – poles crafted to enable safe crossings. Kaitūwhana are those who create, position, and use these essential tools.
Kaitūwhana work alongside whānau, helping you navigate the flood conditions of contemporary challenges – economic pressures, system failures, and societal obstacles. They don’t carry whānau across; they provide the tools, support, and collective strength that enable whānau to navigate their own crossing.
